The JetCam Hippo IP Module switches any analog PAL camera into an IP device that can then be linked to a PC or a network hub for ALPR procedure via a standard Cat5 network cable. No frame grabber is required.
Numerous contemporary offices and construction sites often only use IP network connections for all their video needs rather than using standard RJ45 analogue video cables. With IP it minimises video interference and installation costs - however, there are not any IP cameras on the market that can achieve good quality Infra Red images 24 hours per day appropriate for reading retro reflective plates without headlight dazzle or smear. Most IP cameras use CMOS devices and are usually used for surveillance.
The JetCam Hippo IP Module is merely linked to any standard JetCam ALPR camera to switch it into an IP device that can attaches to the ALPR processor via a standard 100 Base-T network connection. The device utilizes a proprietary codec and is offered as a standalone unit or as an OEM PCB unit for incorporating into camera housings. Two parallel video channels can be run at the same time, allowing 2 x ALPR camera connections or 1 x ALPR and 1 x color overview camera via the one Cat5 cable.

The resolution delivered is 720 x 288 for both the color contextual and the monochrome ALPR images. The codec used is exceptionally quick producing incredibly high quality compressed digital images at 25fps.
At the receiving end, JetLive reads the video signals as a normal input device through the network and decompresses them in real time using nominal processor overhead.
Up to 20 IP module outputs can be linked to a typical 100Mb network via a network switch. A number of PC's can be linked to the network all processing up to four ALPR systems. This allows parallel supervision of ALPR lanes or traffic overview video for security or multi hotlist purposes.
The main benefits of IP is that two JetCam ALPR cameras can be immediately linked to a standard laptop computer through the network adapter providing more than twice the resolution of traditional USB frame grabbers and significantly decreasing the expense of a mobile ALPR system.
This dominant feature is utilized by JetBase to automatically fine-tune the camera for optimum imaging every 30 seconds.
